Ladies and gentlemen, it is with great pleasure that I present to you the newest film to grace our screens- “The Devil All The Time”. Directed by Antonio Campos, this film has taken the audience by storm with its masterful storytelling and impeccable acting from its talented cast.
The storyline of this film is nothing short of intriguing. Set in the backwoods of Ohio, the narrative follows several characters whose lives intertwine in unexpected and sometimes disturbing ways. The central figure, Arvin Russell (played by Tom Holland), is a young man who has faced more tragedy than anyone his age should have to bear. His father served in World War II and experienced horrors that left him permanently scarred, both mentally and physically.
As we journey through Arvin’s life, we encounter a host of other characters who all have their own stories to tell. There’s Carl and Sandy Henderson (Jason Clarke and Riley Keough), a sinister couple who use their charms to lure unsuspecting men into their grasp. Cinematography is another area where this movie excels. Shot on 35mm film by cinematographer Lol Crawley, he manages to set the mood perfectly even amidst the dreariest landscape scenes (the best example being during Roy Laferty’s sermon).
Not only is “The Devil All The Time” engaging from start to finish but it also deserves recognition for its impeccable production design by Craig Lathrop – which brings back the mid-century look with great care and authenticity; giving us a glimpse into what life was like around that time.
In terms of popularity, “The Devil All The Time” seems to be one of Netflix’s most talked-about releases yet. The film has gained instant success since its release in September 2020 and rightfully so- due to its intriguing plotline which keeps viewers engaged throughout.
As with any film release, there are bound to be some criticisms too; some people might argue that the pace of the movie is slow, or that it’s too violent. Some have even criticized Pattinson’s accent in the film and claimed that it was not good enough. However, one can argue that all these factors only contribute to making the movie more realistic.
